The defender of Cevennes traditions has left us

Alain Mercier, originally from Alès, retired and settled in Vallée Longe, after a career at Télécom, left us at the age of 68. Deeply attached to his adopted rural environment, the Cévennes, he was fully engaged in numerous local collective projects.

He is remembered in particular for his commitment as president of the rural center of Saint-Michel-de-Dèze or his involvement in the rural university, bringing together producers, researchers and historians. A great defender of the Occitan language, he actively supported Marinette Mazoyer’s classes within the Du Céfédé à la ligne verte association.

Passionate about traditional know-how, he was able to pass on to others his knowledge of the art of grafting the chestnut tree, showing his investment in the preservation and enhancement of local heritage.

The illness ultimately triumphed over his courage and determination. To his family and loved ones, Free Midday sends its sincere condolences.
