The 60th Solothurn Days begin on January 22 with the premiere of Thomas Haemmerli’s documentary film “The Legacy of Bruno Stefanini”. The opening ceremony will take place in the presence of Federal Councilor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider.
The film “Die Hinterlassenschaft des Bruno Stefanini” (The Legacy of Bruno Stefanini) interweaves a piece of contemporary Swiss history with the story of the life of Bruno Stefanini (1924-2018), son of an immigrant who became a billionaire entrepreneur and great collector . The man has amassed castles, like that of Grandson, anti-atomic shelters, tanks and works of Art, as well as numerous curiosities ranging from General Guisan’s coat to the gold-plated toothbrush of Napoleon.
When he died, he left nearly 100,000 objects that his daughter Bettina, head of the Foundation for Art, Culture and History (FACH) in Winterthur, is doing her best to catalog and make it visible and useful.
“This film is representative of a theme present in several films this year in Solothurn: what will we leave to our posterity?” noted the artistic director of the Solothurn Film Festival, Niccolò Castelli on Wednesday at the Rex cinema in Bern.
