This festival, coinciding with the celebration of Independence Day, pays homage to the Ghiwani phenomenon, emblematic of the 1970s. The event will immerse the public in the Ghiwani universe with musical performances inspired by this rich Moroccan heritage, thus celebrating the artistic journey of this authentic musical genre. Ghiwani songs, imbued with deep spirituality and social messages, will be reinterpreted to relive this heritage. The festival also highlights the importance of Ghiwani music as an essential component of Moroccan cultural identity, while working to renew it so that it harmonizes with contemporary musical trends.
The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Casablanca will host the two final evenings of the festival. On Friday, November 29, the public will be able to attend a first evening hosted by the groups “Nass El Ghiwane” and “Lamchaheb. » The closing of the festival, scheduled for Saturday November 30, will be marked by a concert led by maestro Moulay Rachid Regragui, accompanied by 40 musicians. This show will offer an unprecedented musical fusion between this authentic Moroccan heritage and international genres such as Jazz and Blues. On this occasion, several emblematic figures of Ghiwani music will be honored.
The general program of the festival offers, in addition to the concerts, a series of parallel activities. Among these is a book signing session “El Ghiwane… Voices that resemble Morocco” by author and professor Hassan Habibi, which will be held at the headquarters of the Casablanca-Settat Region.
