The 8th album was conceived during the troubled period of confinement. A suspended moment, conducive to refocusing on oneself by exploring more intimate and personal themes. But it also made it possible to measure and feel the beauty of the collective, the joy of being in such a group. “We wanted to get together all seven, we composed in a more collegial way. We tried to be more instinctive, not to make a big deal out of everything, more let yourself be carried away!”

Easier to let yourself be carried away after 25 years of career and countless concerts around the world. The album of maturity? Maybe.

The group is often compared to legendary productions from Stax Records or Motown for its blend of blues, soul and funk

With Malted Milk, version 2024, you will move to a funkier and more pop soul… A mix that places them more than ever in the present! Yet this album is a tribute to their first loves, the soul of the 70s, that of their childhood. The one who reasoned in their kitchen, after spending the day on their bike, their pockets full of marbles.

1975? It’s my date of birth, the title of a song and the nostalgia of happy childhood

Arnaud Fradin

Malted Milk – Guitar and Vocals

A flood of feelings that he felt while observing his children, aged 5 and 12. “Lots of memories come back watching them grow up. At their age, says Arnaud, we felt total carefreeness, no worries, we were protected from the outside world.

Malted Milk is a French group that breathes African-American music. Their signature: what they call “21st century soul”.

Our strength is fusing traditional blues with elements of soul, funk and even hip-hop

Bassist and co-artistic director

They all had, apart from a few notes, the same encounter with music. As a teenager: a revelation, the blues! This is what brought them together and nourished them during the first years of their group. “When I was 16, a friend’s father gave me a Lightnin’ Hopkins album,” recalls Arnaud. “At the end of listening, I immediately picked up my guitar. From the first concerts, I I understood that I was in my place”

Then the harmonica gave way to brass! They were transported into the universe of Soul. They then increased the number of meetings and concerts across the Atlantic and in Europe. The group wishes to remain focused on the future and open to influences, hence its choice to collaborate with a rising star of the Nantes music scene, Keysuna.

A hip-hop dancer from a young age, Keysuna gradually broadened her artistic scope by learning bass guitar, before turning to beatmaking and singing. His first EP Earlybirds won over Malted Milk, certainly thanks to its style mixing soul, hip-hop, jazz and electronica.

A live and public broadcast of 26 minutes, produced with Couac Productions within the Nantes microbrewery Little Atlantique Brewery (LAB).

The principle : two live tracks from a confirmed artist or group ; exchanges for some insights into his world ; and an emerging project invited for a unique meeting (CoLAB). All with some bonuses on social networks, to extend the experience.

On the music scene at La CoLAB, Samuel Degasne helps to highlight local artists and promote the music scene. It features a variety of musical genres, from hip-hop to jazz, soul and funk, reflecting the artistic diversity of the region.

Samuel Degasne (presenter) : “Nantes having organized from the middle of the 17th to the 19th century more than 43% of the expeditions linked to slavery, it was logical that the city should preserve some cultural echoes… One of them was soul ( but also funk, blues and gospel) played for more than 25 years by Malted Milk, as a return to the sender and with a name borrowed from a song by Robert Johnson – this bluesman allegedly having a pact with the devil and who influenced a large part of world rock… Initially an acoustic duo before becoming a septet, the Nantes group notably participated in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis; recorded with the American diva Toni Green; are listened to on Spotify by 350,000 monthly listeners… This shows how lucky we are to receive them and the humility that pushes them to put themselves in danger this evening…”

The show is co-produced by France Télévisions and Couac Productions, with the participation of the CNC and the support of the Pays de la Loire Region.
