The Abbey of Maubuisson invites you to discover its new exhibition, entitled “Below the invisible”, by artists Cécile Beau and Grégoire Scalabre, until February 23, 2025. An exhibition combining installations inspired by nature and ceramic sculptures !
Two exhibitions around nature…Maubuisson Abbey invites you to discover its exposition Beyond the Unseen from October 6, 2024 to February 23, 2025. This offers you more precisely an artistic dialogue between the works of Cécile Beau et Grégoire Scalabreoffering a contemporary approach to nature and craftsmanship in a heritage setting. An invitation to discover what lies beneath the surface, exploring the interactions between matter, darkness, light, point of view and perception.
Cécile Beaugraduated fromTarbes School of Fine Arts and of Marseille as well as Fresnoy – National Studio of Contemporary Artspresents immersive installations inspired by natural and scientific phenomena. She mentions “ the depths of the underside of the ground » and “ sets of wavelengths and frequencies emitted by the stars », integrating wood, stone and light to question our relationship with the natural world. His sensory and poetic approach aims to reveal hidden worlds within our perceptible reality.
Here, the artist appropriates the remains of an uprooted tree discovered in the Maubuisson park to make a work of it, exposed horizontally, like a recumbent figure, each rib, each eye and each molecule of wood responding to the architecture of the place. The play of light and shadow, depending on your movement in the room, takes you to these fields of the invisible, or rather the non-visible, the light playing on perspectives and the perception of colors and textures. The last room takes you into another world, mixing vibrations, music and planets, creating “stars” from slices of agate. A unique sensory journey.
Grégoire Scalabreceramist trained atDijon School of Fine Arts and to theInstitute of French Ceramics in Sèvresis dedicated to the exploration of darkness as a material, creating works in porcelain and earthenware. His sculptures highlight accumulation and density, playing on figures such as the monolith and organic forms where the shiny enamel contrasts with the twilight atmosphere. Through this expositionhe proposes a “ twilight immersion » which, through its ceramic compositions, recalls elusive infra-worlds, “ escaping darkness through the brilliance of enamel ».
