“Two dark heroes in Mexico”: Discover the hidden pleasures of Mexico with Benoît Roberge and Jean-Michel Dufaux

After Thailand and Vietnam, the two friends and travel enthusiasts Jean-Michel Dufaux and Benoît Roberge set off to discover Mexico in the new documentary series Two dark heroes in Mexico.

The two accomplices of the last 25 years are interested, in this new part, in inland cities, culture and gastronomy, too often underestimated, but also in heritage and landscapes. They will also discover some of the magical towns, belonging to a group of around a hundred entities which, to preserve this name, must respect certain criteria, but also legends and traditions, particularly culinary.

“It is a country less than five hours from Montreal, too often reduced to its seaside resorts, the beach, the coast. Rarely do people talk about the interior of the country. I thought it was good to shed light on lesser-known regions that Quebecers could easily visit,” said Jean-Michel Dufaux during a three-way conversation with the QMI Agency.

“There are corners of Mexico, like Puebla for example, which gives the impression of being in Spain with the big square and the baroque architecture, or in Mazatlán where the freshness of the food is incredible,” he said. -he added, emphasizing that he loved revisiting and rediscovering this country.

During their journey, which will be presented in 10 one-hour episodes on Friday evenings on Évasion, Benoît Roberge and Jean-Michel Dufaux will notably explore Mexico City, La Paz, Santiago de Querétaro, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Mérida and Oaxaca, where the tandem attended, among other things, a purification ceremony.

“Mexico is a rich, modern and diverse country. Too often, it is summarized as a poor country when that is not the case at all. It is a rich country on many levels. In the series, we show for example the coexistence between street food, which is super accessible and present, and the beautiful restaurants, the beautiful designs in the city and the different cultures,” continued the host.

“We tend to imagine that Mexico is dangerous. We must not generalize. We met extremely friendly, welcoming people. Mexico City is a huge and modern city that anyone can visit in the same way as New York or Chicago,” added foodie Benoît Roberge, insisting on the fact that we must banish this aura of fear surrounding the Mexico.

A bromance unwavering

Friends for almost 25 years, Jean-Michel Dufaux and Benoît Roberge no longer have any secrets from each other while their unfailing complicity continues to succeed as well as ever.

“We tolerate each other in the most difficult times because we know it will pass. The most important thing for us, when we do this kind of project, is that friendship is stronger than anything. We are here to make the best show possible and the truest possible,” said Jean-Michel Dufaux with a smirk, affirming that they had shot this show in the same way as if they had aimed at Mexico without a camera. .

“We complement each other well. I can rely on his knowledge, he can rely on my exaltation. Things never fall flat. When we don’t like something, we’ll say it. We don’t have this discomfort. Knowing each other so well allows for greater authenticity,” added Benoît Roberge.

The series Two dark heroes in Mexico is presented on Friday evenings, around 9 p.m., at Évasion.

This Friday’s episode will allow us to discover the city of Mazatlán, the capital of shrimp, but also the favorite city of globetrotter Jean-Michel Dufaux.
