Alec Baldwin explained why he can’t watch Rust.
The 66-year-old actor fired a loaded gun on the film’s set, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza in October 2021.
Rust was finally released this month, but Alec Baldwin explained that he couldn’t bring himself to watch the final version of the film, even though he starred in it and produced it, also helping to develop the script .
Alec Baldwin told Variety at the Turin Film Festival this weekend: “It’s obviously the most difficult thing I’ve faced in my life. Beyond the victims themselves, what hurts me the most is what this did to my wife […]. We’re trying to move forward, to move away from that kind of thing. Because the film doesn’t stand up on its own. He will always be overshadowed by this story.”
Mother of one, Halyna Hutchins was only 42 years old when she died following the accident on the film set.
A dedication is dedicated to him at the end of the film.
The western’s end credits begin with the words “for Halyna”, followed by a quote: “What can we do to make things better?” – attributed to Halyna Hutchins.
Alec Baldwin was charged with manslaughter, but the trial was ultimately thrown out by a judge for procedural violations. However, on September 4, New Mexico Attorney Kari Morrisey challenged the reversal.
The production’s gunsmith, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was sentenced in April to 18 months in prison for accidentally loading the actor’s pistol with a real bullet. She also contests her conviction.
