No question of showing letters or selling sofas. Former television presenter Victoria Silvstedt, known for “Wheel of Fortune” in France, will try to represent her native country, Sweden, at Eurovision 2025, which will take place in May in Basel ( Swiss).
Swedish public television SVT revealed this Tuesday the list of 30 artists who will participate in the Swedish national selection to choose the national representative at Eurovision, Melodifestivalen. A model for around thirty years, Victoria Silvstedt was first runner-up to Miss Sweden in 1993 then playmate of the year in 1997.
A song written by former Eurovision winners
In France, it landed on the small screen in 2006, on TF 1, when the channel relaunched the cult game “Wheel of Fortune”. She then formed a duo with presenter Christophe Dechavanne, a role she held until 2011.
This time, she returned to the field of singing at the age of 50. A sector which is not unknown to her since she had already released an album in 1999 in Sweden, as well as a single in France in 2010, the latter not having met with success. To try to participate in Eurovision 2025, Victoria Silvstedt is banking on “Love It!” » a song which is not yet available to listen to, and will only be revealed a few days before the semi-final, in February.
The title was written by Jimmy Jansson and Thomas G: sound. The name of the latter probably doesn’t mean anything to you, but he is a hit machine in Sweden and is behind many Eurovision songs, including “Euphoria” and “Tattoo”, Loreen’s victorious songs in 2012 and 2023.
An unmissable competition in the country
Participating in Melodifestivalen is a considerable opportunity for a Swedish artist. A true institution in the country for almost 70 years, the competition takes place over six weeks and generates figures that would make the major French channels pale with audience shares often exceeding 80% of the public present in front of the small screen.
The strength of this competition also lies in the fact that each of the qualifying “rounds” takes place in a different city in Sweden. This allows people from all over the country to take part in the competition and cheer on their favorite artists. The 2025 edition will pass through Malmö or Gothenburg before a final in Stockholm, as is traditional. The country’s biggest stars go through this often unavoidable stage, whether they are young or older.
Among the competitors this year, we note the return of Måns Zelmerlöw, former Eurovision winner, who won in 2015 with “Heroes”, and John Lundvik, 5th in the 2019 edition.
