Farmers place dozens of municipal signs in front of the Pyrénées-Orientales prefecture

Around twenty tractors responded this Tuesday, November 26 at the call of the FDSEA and Young Farmers to mobilize and make their anger heard. More than a month after the arrival of Annie Genevard, the Minister of Agriculture in the departmentno concrete measures have been taken by the government and farmers do not intend to wait any longer.

Still no announcement for the Pyrénées-Orientales

“We have the impression of acting as a tourism office, the ministers come but we still have no announcement. However, it is the department most affected by the drought in and we have the impression that they are taking this really lightly. It’s catastrophic because we have farms that are threatened with closure in the Pyrénées-Orientales and we can’t leave people in the lurch.” worried Jean Henric, the president of Young Farmers 66 on France Bleu Roussillon.

After a scattered departure from Pollestres, Thuir and the exhibition center, farmers converged on the Perpignan Chamber of Agriculture.

After passing through the Chamber of Agriculture, they went to the premises of the Perpignan prefecture, the end point of their “funeral procession” to symbolize “the death of the agricultural world in the Pyrénées-Orientales”. They also have filed dozens of entry and exit signs from the communes of the Pyrénées-Orientales that they had removed in Octoberaction to indicate “that we no longer know where we are going”.

For now, they did not dump the plants contained in their skips but plan “surprise actions” according to the secretary general of JA 66, Benoît Bousquet.

A delegation of farmers will be received at 11 a.m. by the prefect of the Pyrenees-Orientales.
