The Marseille artist certainly did not expect his song “En live de periscope” to ignite Germany in this way, eight years after its release. Across the Rhine, young Internet users are taking on a challenge on TikTok, a dangerous trend that has gone viral: setting their fingertips on fire by making the emblematic Jul sign, to the playback of the song. These German fans of the rapper reproduce the cover of his Free Album Vol 2.

The site Konbini alerted to this worrying new trend on November 21 with the headline: “When a piece by Jul becomes a trend in Germany (and it goes a little too far)”. The challenge is to spray your hands with perfume and approach the flame of a lighter. “Not to be reproduced at home” specifies Konbini.

Despite this, videos of the challenge are multiplying on social networks.

The Marseille rapper reacted on his X account, calling on his fans to stop these challenges. “The team, I hope you are well? Just to tell you that I saw the trend you are making on TikTok… it's nice, but I think it's a little dangerous for you!”he writes.

“If you could stop, that would be good for me,” he asks, adding: “If you can spread the word, that would reassure me.”

Let's hope that this message from Jul will stop the spread of this trend and that it will die out before arriving in Marseille.
