P.Diddy, 54, has been incarcerated since September 17, 2024 while awaiting his trial which is due to take place in May 2025. The hip-hop star is accused by several women, including his ex-partner, singer Cassie, sex trafficking, rape and extortion. Facts that he fiercely denies.
P.Diddy: An audience under high tension
Friday, November 22, 2024, P. Diddy appeared handcuffed in Manhattan court for his third request for release. Dressed in the orange prison uniform, the multimillionaire rapper was surrounded by his family, including his mother Janice Combs. At the end of the hearing, the latter had to face the anger of certain passers-by who shouted: “Your son is a predator!“.
Prosecutors once again opposed his release, saying the rapper allegedly contacted witnesses and used unauthorized means of communication while in custody. A serious accusation which could weigh heavily in the judges' decision, expected in the coming days.
A musical empire at the heart of scandal
Since the revelation of the first complaints against him in the fall of 2023, P. Diddy has seen his star fade. The man who built a veritable musical empire with his label Bad Boy Records is today accused of having put the latter at the service of a system of “violent trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation and extortion”.
Among the complainants is notably the singer Cassie, his ex-partner, who accuses him of rape. A procedure which ultimately resulted in an “amicable” agreement according to both parties. Other women describe him as a “violent sexual predator“using” alcohol and drugs” to obtain their submission. Allegations that P. Diddy has always refuted.
Bad Boy Records, from dream to nightmare
Founded in 1993, the Bad Boy Records label made its mark in the history of hip-hop. By bringing to the fore artists like Mary J. Blige or Notorious BIG (assassinated in 1997), P. Diddy helped to inscribe this musical genre in global popular culture.
But today, it is this same label which is singled out by the accusation. Investigators are seeking to determine whether the structure could have been used for criminal activities, far from the glamorous image it has long conveyed. A terrible blow for P. Diddy who risks seeing his trial turn into a long descent into hell. To be continued.
