Raising awareness of children’s rights in cinema

This November 20 is International Children’s Rights Day. It has been 35 years since the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted. Switzerland ratified it in 1997. And on Wednesday, the cinemas of the Jura Arc are mobilizing: they are organizing a special day at the cinema. Cinemont, Cinevital and Cinepel offer screenings, but also round tables to invite the population, politicians, justice and police to get involved. The objective is “to shed light on the situation of children’s rights and to call for better protection”, explained Daniela Schnegg, initiator of the project, in “La Matinale”. This day highlights the prevention of violence, but also “a reflection on better support for victims of domestic and sexual violence”. Daniela Schnegg who recalls that when a person is abused during childhood, “there are consequences in adulthood”. The initiator of this day of children’s rights in cinema deplores that the subject is still too taboo. “It is vital to talk about it, we should make it the top priority and not say that we have time! »
