“I had a billion lives”: the incredible destiny of comedian Elena Nagapetyan from Uzbekistan to

“They remembered the name Adèle Exarchopoulos, so, Nagapetyan…” In the street, many of her fans still call her simply “Elena”, perhaps for fear of damaging her surname from the East. But at the speed at which this young 37-year-old mother is leading her career, we don’t give the French public much time to get used to these four syllables. New to Inter where she delivers her columns every Wednesday afternoon, Elena Nagapetyan is one of the comic sensations of the moment. On Instagram, half a million subscribers follow the funny tribulations of this Russian with the rich words and charming accent who, only three years ago, was still an executive assistant.

Performed to sold-out audiences in the provinces as well as in where the venues continue to grow – it will be in the pretty setting of the Théâtre des Variétés (II arrondissement) from January – her first one-woman show is a hit. On stage, she scratches – to put it mildly – the icon of the perfect mother, sketches France with an offbeat look full of freshness, speaks without pretense or filter about sex and the couple, going so far as to titillate with truculence the opinion of the spectators during delicious moments of improvisation. It’s hard to imagine that she’s only been doing stand-up since the end of confinement.
