” Life is beautiful ! » In residence at the Glob theater, Léa Conil rehearses her only one on stage. She performs a text written by Nathalie Filion and Andrée Chedid, “The night never ends”, on the occasion of the Cultivons nos singularités festival. “An anatomical solo”, as she calls it, which explores the relationship with the body of a young woman who cannot sleep. She chose the text 4 years ago, just before an ankle accident which left her disabled for life.
Funny coincidence for the actress who has a taste for “body theater”: “My body is my daily work tool. I had to reinvent my entire way of working. » She now warms up before and after each rehearsal but refuses any compromise in the staging.
This play is also the return of the actress: “It’s the first time I’m playing again and it’s quite symbolic to do it in this setting. » Let’s cultivate our singularities is in fact an opportunity for artists with disabilities to play on stage, without making it the theme of the pieces proposed. Newly arrived, the director of the Glob theater, Yoann Lavabre, imported this idea from the Paris region: “This first edition in Bordeaux is the extension of the Imago festival which has existed in Paris for around ten years. Theater must represent the diversity of society. »
Raise awareness among the public and professionals
But what should we think of an event to put the spotlight on artists with disabilities? “The ideal would of course be to be able to find people with disabilities throughout the season,” confirms Yoann Lavabre. But given their extremely low representation in this environment, focus is still necessary to raise awareness among the public and professionals. » The idea being to extend the festival to other cultural places in Bordeaux next year. “We should establish a right to difference in non-differentiation” summarizes Yoann Lavabre.
“I have sometimes refused projects when the director was not ready to adapt” confides Léa Conil. But during the festival, the situation is reversed: the piece by Jennifer Lesage-David, which opens the festival with Emmanuelle Laborie, is in sign language. Two interpreters will provide dubbing for hearing people. It’s up to the public to adapt!
