State, Burgundy-Franche-Comté Region, Department of Nièvre, Agglomeration and City of Nevers signed, Friday, November 15, an agreement binding them to ensure Big Bang, a regional jazz reference center, the continuity of its missions.
The successful continuation of the activities of Big Bang, a reference jazz center in the region, was confirmed on Friday, November 15, by the signing of a multi-year agreement of objectives at the municipal theater of Nevers.
This, which runs until 2027, testifies to the financial support of the State, the Region, the Department, as well as the Agglomeration and the City of Nevers for the structure which results from the merger, carried out l last year, of two entities: D’Jazz Nevers and the Regional Jazz Center in Burgundy-Franche-Comté.
Artist residencies created in Nevers
From this association of skills and actors, several developments have resulted beyond the consolidation of existing missions, explain Roger Fontanel and Arnaud Merlin, respectively director and president of Big Bang (which today has six full-time equivalents.)
First, the creation of artist residencies at the Café Charbon, in Nevers: the musician and singer Célia Forestier is expected there in January, the sextet of Hélène Duret (which festival spectators were able to discover with Daniel Erdmann, Thursday November 14, at La Maison) in April. Female artists are also increasingly numerous and visible in programming.
For Roger Fontanel, creator of the D’Jazz Nevers festival, Big Bang is in “the pursuit of an adventure for a new dynamic”
In continuation of the actions of D’Jazz Nevers and the Regional Center, Big Bang works on several levels, from broadcasting (in festivals and in season) to artistic and cultural education for different audiences, including support for creation or provision of resources for professionals.

At the end of this convention, the D’Jazz Nevers Festival will have celebrated its fortieth anniversary. A longevity noted by the partners who salute, like Wilfrid Séjeau, vice-president of the Department, “the exemplary nature of a long-term cultural action” participating in “forging a common culture and bringing people together. »
