Rabat – The work of an international conference under the theme “Translating digital content: strategies and practices” began on Wednesday evening in Rabat, with the participation of Moroccan and foreign experts and professors.
Organized by the Higher Academic Body for Translation under the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, this two-day conference comes at a time when the world is living at the pace of accelerated technological changes, making the translation of digital content a fundamental necessity. to strengthen communication across linguistic and cultural boundaries and a complex process that must take into account diverse cultural contexts.
Speaking at the opening of this meeting, the coordinator of the Higher Academic Translation Authority, Abdelfattah Lahjomri, indicated that this international conference constitutes an opportunity to take stock of the latest scientific research in the field of translation. automatic processing of texts in general, and digital content in particular.
Mr. Lahjomri also highlighted that digital content now touches all aspects of human life, ranging from social networks, communication and information and educational resources, which places translation at the center of global communication, given that it guarantees users’ access to this content, while remaining faithful to local culture and values.
Technology and artificial intelligence are today redefining the roles of translation, all the more so as they impose challenges on translators relating to the need to achieve a balance between reliability and precision on the one hand and speed of transmission information on the other hand.
He further noted that the translation of digital content must take into consideration the change in cultural environments capable of guaranteeing its conformity to the content and cultural context, noting in this sense the importance of training competent translators at the level technical, and aware of their decisive role in society and the great responsibility that falls to them.
For his part, the professor at the Mohammed Premier University of Oujda, Azzeddine Mazroui affirmed, in a statement to MAP, that this conference is also an opportunity to focus on the constraints of automatic translation, to and towards Arabic, as well as the means of its improvement.
In this regard, he mentioned the richness of the Arabic language which poses difficulties for translators who must be precise and in-depth, in addition to the lack of efficient technical tools making it possible to provide an ideal automatic translation from and to this language.
The program of this conference includes three scientific sessions, notably on the impact of artificial intelligence on translation, neural translation and digital humanities.
The Higher Academic Translation Authority, which is part of the scientific organs of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, is responsible for encouraging translation work inside and outside the Kingdom between Arabic, Amazigh and other world languages and to work to support them, encourage them and broaden their scope.
To this end, the Authority carries out or supervises translation work on works, studies and authentic scientific research of reference in the various fields of science, thought, culture, heritage and civilization and encourages the scientific research on questions concerning translation studies and its applications and works towards its development and improvement, in coordination with specialized international, foreign or national scientific bodies and establishments.
