Moo Deng has an official song released in 4 languages

The song “Moodeng Moodeng”, with a duration of 50 seconds, is available in Thai, English, Chinese and Japanese. It features simple lyrics such as “Moo Deng Moo Deng, boing boing boing/ Mommy mommy, play with me.” The video clip shows the baby hippo bouncing around, playing with its keeper or spending time with its mother Jona.

This catchy song was produced and written by famous Thai composer Mueanphet Ammara, and released by one of Thailand’s biggest companies, GMM Music.

Moo Deng – whose name literally means “bouncing pig”, a type of meatball, in Thai – became a global phenomenon just a month after being unveiled on Facebook by the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chon province Buri, in the south of Thailand.

His fans say his name reflects his chaotic personality. Moo Deng loves to “deng,” meaning bouncing, and his dizzying bounces have appeared all over social media in countless memes. His image has been used by sports teams and businesses.

The four-month-old hippopotamus has attracted large numbers of visitors to the zoo, located about a two-hour drive from the capital Bangkok. The zoo estimates it has received between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors per day on average in recent months, and it sells clothing, bedding and other items featuring Moo Deng.

Zoo director Narongwit Chodchoi said the increased revenue generated by Moo Deng would help its breeding programs for many endangered species, such as the pygmy hippo, which is threatened by poaching and habitat loss . This species is native to West Africa and there are only 2000 to 3000 left in the wild.

The zoo covers 800 hectares and is home to more than 2000 animals.

All four versions of the song Moo Deng are available on YouTube and online streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music.
