Samba Mballo, better known under the pseudonym “Bathie” and a prominent member of the group Gelongal, died this Sunday, plunging the Senegalese music scene into mourning.
An emblematic figure of urban music in Senegal, Bathie was appreciated for his talent and his commitment to promoting local culture through modern rhythms and strong messages. The circumstances of his disappearance were shrouded in mystery until journalist Cheikh Yerim Seck, close to the group, shared details three days after the announcement.
