A documentary on Jeanne Malivel, a figure in Breton art, will be screened in Saint-Malo

Died in 1926 at the age of 31, Jeanne Malivel worked for the rebirth of Breton art that was both anchored in its Celtic roots and fully modernized.

This charismatic young woman, who was promised a very successful artistic career in Paris after her studies at the Beaux-Arts, had made the bold choice to return to work in Central Brittany. She wanted to promote the talent of local craftsmen and give work to young destitute Breton women.

At the origins of the Ar Seiz Breur movement

Furniture designer, wood engraver, passionate about weaving and the famous canvases of Brittany which left the port of Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine) to South America, this avant-garde artist boosted the creation of the Breton design movement Ar Seiz Breur, which she spread to Paris and beyond.

Author and director, Laurence-Pauline Boileau dedicated a documentary to him, entitled Jeanne Malivel, a sun rises. It will be screened on Friday November 15, 2024, in Saint-Malo, in the presence of the director.
