Gone are the days of shoes that only allowed us to walk in the street. Today the sneakerit’s quite an art. Inaugurated in Toulouse in October 2024, the workshop Sizes makes pairs like we’ve never seen before. The artisans have recently collaborated with Thomas Pesquet, Bigflo and Oli and even NBA star Guerschon Yabusele.
Artisanal creations
Here we don’t sell the latest fashionable pairs… we imagine them!
Sizes are nine boot makers who use their know-how and passion to produce unique sneakers.
“It’s not simple customization. We make drawings, plans, research meetings with artistic directors and we create the pairs entirely by hand from a sole. This is what we call bespoke,” explains Julien Bonzom, general director of Pointures. A process that can sometimes take several months to finally obtain a final product.
“These are collector’s items”
Formerly The Toulouse BootmakerPointures is the happy medium between the art gallery and the boutique. All while also offering bootmaker CAP training.
The premises are thus divided into three parts: a showcase with the different creations of the collective, a workshop and a training space. Together they redefine the codes of sneakers by mixing traditional and contemporary craftsmanship.
“Our customers often come with the aim of leaving with a unique object. Some people see sneakers more as collector’s items, works of arttrophies that they display. Others come to our door with the aim of wearing original creations that we don’t see anywhere else,” underlines the artisan.
Several collaborations with celebrities
In 2022, the Pointures team unveiled the Space Jordan 1a unique pair designed “from materials from the space industry and textiles used for astronaut suits”. Thomas Pesquet is today the happy owner.
“Originally it was Stade Toulousain who wanted to give him a gift when he returned to Earth in 2022. We got in touch with him and worked together on the design, while keeping a few surprises of course. When we create collaborations, we try to transfer the personality of the person to the pair so that it best suits them,” explains Julien Bonzom.
Other artists such as Bigflo and Oli were also lucky enough to receive a pair bearing their image. Dressed all in pink, we find on the shoe the logo of their Visionnaire brand, the inscription “Rose Festival” as well as a QR code which links to their YouTube channel.
