Former mayor of Montereau, from 1989 to 1995, and already author of several historical books, Alain Drèze has just published his sixth work which is entitled: Fearless Jean was murdered again. An original novel that mixes history, reality and fiction.
Indeed, this new book takes as a basis the commemorations which were organized by the municipality in 2019, on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the assassination of Duke of Burgundya major historical event of the Hundred Years’ War, which took place on September 10, 1419on the Montereau bridge.
An actor killed in full performance
“As part of this anniversary, the town hall organized numerous events: conferences, reenactments, parades, etc. It was then planned to play on the bridges a play written by a Monterelese teacher. Ultimately, that didn’t happen, but it gave me the idea of writing a historical essay/novel based on the postulate that the play would have been performed and that the actor who played Fearless John would have been murdered in full performance“, explains Alain Drèze.
With this work, the former first councilor of Monterey and specialist in local history immerses us in a police investigation which will take you back in time, between 1419 and 2019, in order to understand the reasons which led to the murder of this actor, sans mobile apparent and no murder weapon found.
” It is an unpretentious little book which leads us to revisit the central districts of the city, but also its history and its legends,” he explains.
Note that the book is prefaced by the mayor of Montereau, James Chéronand the former principal of the Malraux high school, Alain Lafarge. Finally, for those who wish to meet Alain Drèze, a signing session will take place at the bookseller The InkwellSaturday November 9, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Fearless Jean was murdered again will soon be on sale at the Leclerc cultural space or at the L’Encrier bookstore.
