1948-2024: the poet and rocker Lucien Francoeur is no more

The poet and rocker Lucien Francoeur, one of the pillars of the Aut’Chose group, died on Tuesday at the age of 76, the members of the group announced on their Facebook page.

Here is the message published Wednesday morning.

“ADIEU LUCIEN FRANCOEUR (September 1948 – November 2024)

Today we have tragic news to announce to you. On November 5 at 7:05 p.m., Lucien Francoeur, the soul of Aut’Chose and the most significant rock poet of Quebec, died.

On the evening of October 22, Lucien suffered an acute heart attack (which caused cardiac arrest) then he fell on the sidewalk. It was a passerby who helped him by performing a cardiac massage which, it seems, fractured his ribs. The passerby contacted the paramedics, but, unfortunately, we do not know how much time passed between the heart attack and Lucien’s treatment by the paramedics.

Taken to a hospital center for intensive care, he was connected to various devices to keep him alive. His brain was affected and the prognosis was fatal. His wife Claudine and his daughter Virginie kept him company for more than two weeks. They shared his favorite music, recited poems that he adored, without forgetting to whisper the last words of love into his ear…

A few days ago, they had to make the suffocating decision, with the recommendation of cardiologists and neurologists, to disconnect him from everything so that he could peacefully pursue another life in another world.

Lucien is not alone up there. In fact, on September 18, the guitarist from the first era of Aut’Chose, Jacques Racine, gave up the ghost. A few years ago, the original bassist, Mick Gauthier, left. They are original members of the training, pillars. And these are significant losses for Aut’Chose.

Friends, all this to tell you that Lucien’s departure sounds the definitive death knell for the group.

We hope that his memory can always be alive among us. We have more than fifteen albums, more than thirty books and numerous appearances on the Web, radio and television to keep Lucien in mind.

Today, its influence remains tangible and for a long time. Let’s share this work.

Hello rocker!

Lucien is survived by his partner Claudine Bertrand and his daughter Virginie, his sister Carole and his brothers Louis and Donald. To the bereaved family, we offer our most sincere condolences.”
