Visiting South Africa to celebrate his Earthshot Prize, Prince William was received by President Cyril Ramaphosa in Cape Town on Tuesday.
Created in 2020, this award recognizes environmental sustainability initiatives around the world.
For this four-day visit, the Prince of Wales met various local stakeholders involved in conservation projects, sustainable energy and the preservation of natural resources.
This visit is part of a strategic agenda as the United Kingdom seeks to broaden its influence on the continent, prioritizing economic partnerships.
This strategy comes as increasingly heated discussions emerge in Africa on reparations linked to slavery and colonialism. Voices calling for recognition of historical injustices and reparations are increasing. In addition, the British military presence is also at the heart of the discussions.
This is the first visit of Charles III’s son to South Africa. His last visit to Africa was in 2018.
