On Pierre Carayon’s desk, we find all of his work. 12 books that he has written himself since 2018. Portrait of this self-taught writer from Aveyron.
In Pierre Carayon’s books, you will easily find some anecdotes. Most evoke personal memories gleaned over time when the now retired man was a hotelier in Saint Sernin-sur-Rance in Aveyron. “I was lucky enough to receive personalities, so it goes from Louis de Funès, Michèle Morgan, Lino Ventura, a whole bunch of people that I am not going to mention, because otherwise the list would be long. I tried to take notes on their passages and it all resurfaces today.“
This epicurean immersed himself with relish in writing. So much so that he published his works himself. 1000 prints per book. Thanks to sales, he is barely breaking even financially. “I take care of everything, the layout etc., I had someone to correct my spelling mistakes, but on second thought he did more than me so I spared myself that spend as a good Aveyronnais!”
Books are never far away in Pierre Carayon’s life. Downstairs from his house, the Attitude bookstore. There he found his friend Henri Assier. Friend, but also loyal reader. And the discussion of the day obviously revolves around books. And the subject is not least, the writer’s latest book.
Because in this latest book, Pierre Carayon allows himself a coquettish style. He writes in verse and that can only please him.
“Writing Jaurès in slam poetry blew my mind, I took the liberty of telling him, but I like it” says Henri Assier with a smirk. And inspiration never leaves our writer. Michel Sardou will be at the heart of his next work.
