Initially, spectators would not necessarily have bet on the series The Penguin, a spin-off from the universe of The Batman by Matt Reeves. As surprising as it may seem, the series fascinates more and more spectators every week, to the point that its qualities are overshadowing the film released in 2022. Supported by a very good casting, the show nevertheless had to compose without the presence of John Turturro. The interpreter of Carmine Falcone in The Batman, replaced, explained the reasons which pushed him to refuse to appear in the series.

The Penguin, stronger than Batman? The HBO series is thrilling fans!

March 4, 2022, the release of the film The Batman by Matt Reeves is unanimous among fans of the Dark Knight. It’s difficult to follow Christopher Nolan’s incredible trilogy and yet, the project comes out with nice recommendation scores all over the web and garners rave reviews. From now on, it is the next part which is even more anticipated around the corner, even if it is not there to be shown in cinemas. Technically, it will only be screened in a little less than two years: in , you will have to wait until September 30, 2026!

For fans, four and a half years may seem like an eternity, but it was without taking into account the potential of this universe. In order to enrich and develop them, the American broadcaster HBO had the idea of developing a series centered on the character of the Penguin. Broadcast for a few weeks now, the series is called The Penguin and partly takes up the casting of The Batman by once again offering the role of Oswald Cobblepot to actor Colin Farrell, even if – for those who have seen the series – it is Cristin Milioti (known among others for playing the famous mother of How I Met Your Mother) who steals the show!

This actor really wasn’t up for the series, the violence against women was too present for him

The new characters in the series The Penguin do they eclipse the actors of The Batman ? It’s very possible! Moreover, some of them, unlike Colin Farrell, did not even make it to the HBO series. This is for example the case of the actor John Turturro who played organized crime lord Carmine Falcone in the Matt Reeves film. Although he played a particularly violent figure, due to his status, he was no longer in agreement with the plot of the spin-off series. The Penguin. As he explained in an interview, the violence of The Batman is above all suggested and rarely appears on screen, unlike the spin-off currently broadcast by HBO.

Beyond this much more significant violence on the screen in The Penguinit was the relentlessness towards women that did not make John Turturro want to get back into the shoes of Carmine Falcone. When discovering the script of the series, the actor realized that he “ there was a lot of violence against women » and preferred to decline, explaining that this “ wasn’t his thing ». During The Batmanhe explained that he had “ did what he wanted with the role (by Carmine Falcone)” and that this suggestion of violence was “ more frightening this way ». In any case, the series was not going to ignore this very important character in the universe and the choice was therefore made to replace the actor, in this case with Mark Strong (Kingsman).
