“Harry Potter” returns with a series in 2026.Image: warner bros.
Harry Potter fans, unite! What is the new series Harry Potter should do better than the movies? Here are our proposals.
More “Entertainment”
A new series Harry Potter is announced for 2026. Casting for the main roles is currently underway in England and Ireland. The series has great potential to return to the success of the Books and films, because even after so many years the fan community is still very large and active.
Producers now have the opportunity to correct “mistakes” from past films. The opportunity for them to take an even more specific interest in books. According to early reports, one season is expected to cover one book at a time.
Since we know that this remake is in production, fans discuss what Warner Bros should do different or what should be improved from the films. We also have some ideas on this subject.
Ginny needs a personality…
“Ginny needs…well: a character.”
Sabeth Vela
In the books, Ginny is shown to be smart, funny and strong – but in the films, these qualities are completely ignored. She is portrayed in a very one-dimensional manner and adds little to the plot. It seems that Ginny’s only purpose is to be Harry’s friend.

…and more chemistry with Harry
And this romance is unfortunately not very convincing. Their interactions are often unpleasant to watch and seem very unnatural.
“They were the worst couple in the movies”
Sabeth Vela.

Better written characters
“Obviously a film has to make concessions. But in a series, there is as much time to develop the characters as in a book. Let Ron be an integral part of the trio, with his knowledge of the wizarding world. Give Ginny a character. Let’s make you hate Percy, then love him again.”

The actors must convince
“The actresses and actors who play the main roles have to be super convincing. They will, in my opinion, have a lot of difficulty in making the actors associated with the protagonists disappear from the minds of the spectators.”

Better duels
“It’s really about magic, and not just throwing flashes of light at your enemy’s head. In the movies this has been played out well, but only once. It was in ‘Order of the Phoenix’, during the Dumbledore versus Voldemort duel. Magic should always be spectacular.”
Adrian Bürgler
This is what magic duels should always be like in Harry Potter:
Peeves must be present
Peeves is a poltergeist who wreaks havoc at Hogwarts as much as he can. Scenes with Peeves were actually filmed for the films, but they didn’t make the cut.
“If Peeves isn’t here, I’m not watching.”
Sabeth Vela.
The Poltergeist is described as follows in the books: a small man with a sly face. He wears a bell-shaped hat and an orange bow tie. As a ghost, he can turn invisible, float, and appear anywhere in Hogwarts.

The “marauders” must be younger
“Some adult characters should look younger.”
Sabeth Vela
Remus Lupine and Sirius Black as well as Severus Snape are the same age as Harry’s parents. They having died in their twenties, Snape, Lupine and Black should be in their thirties in the films – an age which they clearly are not. Will these characters be rejuvenated in the series?
It’s not that obvious, but these men are supposed to be around 30 years old: Severus Snape, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin.Image: warner bros.
Give Harry his green eyes back!
“Harry’s eyes should be the same color as his mother’s: green. In the books, they talk about it all the time.”
Sabeth Vela
The blue color of Daniel Radcliffe’s eyes was retained in the films, although they are green in the books. This is because Radcliffe couldn’t stand colored contact lenses. It was therefore decided to give it up.

Stay more faithful to the books
“It is necessary for the screenwriters to take their time. The films biggest mistake was liquidating the story into seven parts and completely ignoring some important plotlines. For those who saw the films first, this caused a lot of confusion. It is only by reading the books afterwards that the plot makes sense from the fourth film onwards. It’s annoying. So show us the whole story.”

Hermione must not be just a nerd
“…but we also have to reflect the rebel she is in the books. The one who blackmails a troublesome journalist and opposes the enslavement of house elves.”
Aylin Erol

Let’s free the house elves!
If the film addresses the subject of house elves through the fate of Dobby, the films completely avoid their condition as slaves within the magical world. In the books, Hermione Granger notably founds the Elf Liberation Aid Society. Hermione campaigns to get the house elves at Hogwarts to think about their living conditions, thus creating a whole arc on the notion of civil rights for these magical creatures.
