Access 2024 master classes: emerging artists invited to apply

Masterclasses are designed for emerging and established artists, as well as industry professionals to gain expertise and guidance from international executives on essential topics.

This cultural encounter aims to guide participants through the process of distributing their music across major digital platforms, while introducing proven marketing strategies to strengthen their online presence. Participants will also explore the intricacies of digital music distribution, learn how to prepare their tracks for global release, and develop an effective marketing plan to maximize their reach.

This give-and-take event will serve as a gateway for attendees to understand how to protect their copyrights, collect royalties, and navigate the music publishing landscape with confidence.

Industry experts will provide valuable insights, breaking down essential strategies, from registering works to negotiating publishing deals and licensing. Participants will also gain practical tools and inside knowledge to master the legal, creative and business aspects of music publishing, ensuring they maximize the value of their creative output.

The session will explore how songwriters, managers and publishers can manage their personal data to earn royalties globally, including in the largest streaming market, the United States.

As of 2021, MLC has distributed over $2 billion to rights holders worldwide. Participants will learn effective strategies to ensure they receive the royalties they are owed in international markets.

The masterclasses will be led by Wendy Verwey Bekker, Ditto Music Regional Manager for Africa (South Africa), Rowlin Naicker, Managing Director of Sony Music Publishing (South Africa), and Indi Chawla, Mechanical International Relations Manager Licensing Collective (UK).

To apply, eligible people wishing to participate in the masterclasses must go to the organizers’ website. They must, among other things, produce a short presentation video, attend the entire series of masterclasses, be over 18 years old and understand the English language. Applications will close on October 31 at 12 p.m. (CAT), and all applicants will be notified by November 5.
