A new green space for Montrouge. The municipality of Hauts-de-Seine plans to create a square at 127 avenue de la République, on the site of a building purchased by the city which is about to be demolished. This small park of 1,300 m2 will be extended by a place du May 8, 1945 redeveloped and vegetated. While waiting for the development work to begin, scheduled for spring 2025, local residents can already choose the name of their future public garden.
A green space created from scratch
The entire redeveloped plot will cover 2,400 m², for a total cost of 9 million euros (purchase of land included). The demolition and development work, estimated at 2.7 million euros, is mainly covered by the Vallée Sud-Grand Paris region. The future square will be crossed by a 100 m² pool which will act as a natural air conditioner. The ground will be de-waterproofed, and 25 trees will be planted, in addition to the 13 already existing.
The garden will be extended by a complete redevelopment of Avenue de la Républiquewhich will be partly pedestrianized and vegetated. Somewhat neglected by residents since the arrival of metro 4 at Barbara station, traders will be able to benefit from new shaded terracesand a 300 m² boutique workshop dedicated to artisans and art creators.
A name to choose
But then, what name will this future square take? At the end of a consultation process, the municipality will let the vote decide. You have the choice between six proposals:
- The garden of poets (linked to the name of the streets in the neighborhood)
- Fernand-Léger Park (painter who had a workshop in Montrouge)
- The Dignity Park (linked to the statue which was present on the square and which could be found in the park)
- Ariane-Mnouchkine Park (theater director and host of the troupe du soleil who lived in Montrouge)
- The Vallière park (former castle in Montrouge)
- La Fontaine Park (linked to rue Jean-de la-Fontaine and the presence of a fountain in the center of the park)

After a phase of decontamination and demolition, the work will begin at spring 2025 and will last 10 months with an opening planned for the end of 2025.
