From November 4 to 30, eight films will be presented as part of “Doc Month” in several locations in the city of the glove.
There is something for everyone. The “Mois du Doc” festival understands this well, as do the organizers. From November 4 to 20, the cinemas of the city of the glove (and they will not only be at the Millau cinema!) will broadcast eight documentaries finely selected by all the protagonists at the initiative of the launch of this 24th edition of the festival in Millau.
La Mésa (South Aveyron media library), the Millau cinema and Aveyron Cinéma have in fact chosen to join forces with the aim of “to offer the Millavois a rich and diversified program”. A first for the city of gloves which this month hosts the festival which celebrates its 24th anniversary this year.
A national event supported by the Images en Bibliothèque association, the “Mois du Doc” aims to “to highlight documentary films because they are rarely broadcast”plant Céline Guelton-Thomasset for Aveyron Cinéma. And this, “everywherecontinues Cédric Rajadel, image and sound manager at La Mésa. In cinemas, media libraries… all cultural places which have a projection device”.
The theme of food
Among them, two will be broadcast by Mésa in partnership with the departmental media library around the theme of food: “What do we have on our plate?”.
Starting with Super Size Meon November 5, which highlights the harmful effects of the abundant consumption of food produced by the McDonald’s brand. A documentary where “the director is also the herounfolds Cédric Rajadel. Eating morning, noon and evening in this store, he quickly became ill so much so that the doctors who were following him suggested that he stop the experiment. This documentary made things change and forced Mac Do to change many things.”
On this same theme of food, Tomorrow the valley, will be broadcast on November 15, at the Millau cinema. “This documentary questions the shaping of the landscape according to each person’s uses”, presents Alex, coordinator and host at Radio Larzac. The session will be followed by a debate on social food security, a project which allows us to think about the transformation of the entire food system.
Special programming as part of the day against violence against women
One of the screenings will resonate with world news. On November 26, the day after the international day against violence against women on November 25, the Millau cinema will broadcast Smoke Sauna Sisterhood.
Directed by Anna Hintz, the documentary released in 2023 tells the story of the women who frequent the sacred saunas of Estonia, where all the rituals intersect. “Women tell what they say everywhere else”presents the synopsis. “A look at women’s bodies that is different, and that feels good”summarizes Manon Espitallier, family planning volunteer. At the end of the screening, the association will organize a debate with the aim of “to inform and support”.
Various and varied documentaries
Six other documentaries will be broadcast until November 30. Notably Dear Bassin by Mathieu Kiefer, Monday November 4, for the launch of the event. “It was important to highlight a film made in Aveyron by an Aveyron resident. He put his camera at a tattoo artist and a hairdresser in Decazeville, then asked the clients questions about their relationship with the region, explains Céline Guelton-Thomasset. All in poetry.”
From the one who tells the story of the book My fight to the one who immerses spectators in an emergency department of a New York hospital (Hospital), the documentaries of the festival will allow us to see, reconcile and appreciate a genre which is returning to the forefront in Millau.
