On the way to the second edition of short film festival proposed by the Friends of the Donjon, at the Donjon cinema, in Bricquebec (Manche). This Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 8 p.m., spectators will be able to discover nine short films linked to the objectives of theassociationnamely to study and highlight thehistory of Bricquebec and its surroundings. Thus, one of the reports retraces life in Bricquebec in the years 1950 to 1956, with, among other things, the postman’s tour, a day at the beach and firefighter training.
A film about the potters’ market
There will also be a film about the potters’ marketdirected by Yves Rouil, videographer and musician. The last edition of this event was a real success, with more than 6,000 visitors and 53 exhibitors coming from all over France, Alsace, Vendée, Morbihan and of course, Normandy.
“A success for our association and for the exhibitors. I met one person among the visitors, who had come specially from Quimper, to meet a potter she particularly likes. The reputation of this event grows more and more every year”
The latter will also present a short film he made on the Mourot potters.
To find out more about the history of Bricquebec and its canton, the Friends of the Donjon publish a quarterly magazine, documented and embellished with numerous period photographs, “La Voix du Donjon”.
Commemoration and celebration
In issue 120, Jeannine Bavay devotes her pen to air war which took place above the Cotentin in 1943. These events took place over a period of six months, but why target Cotentin? She also returns to thehistory of bombers B-17, also called flying fortresses, the entry of the Americans into the conflict and the collection of testimonies from the inhabitants.
In the second part, Nicolas Abraham remembers the Norman Assemblies of Rocheville, from 1957 to 1964. The author returns to the history of these assemblies, which aimed to resuscitate the celebrations of Norman culture and traditions, in the remains of the forest, at the foot of prehistoric rocks.
Number 121 is a special anniversary issueon the occasion of 30 years of the association. The editors were keen to highlight Bricquebaise personalities and the founders of the association, as well as the actions carried out to remember local history and bring the Norman spoken word to life.
