Netflix releases an epic trailer for the cult duo’s big return

Wallace and Gromit: The Palm of Vengeance will mark the return of the cult duo to Netflix and the first trailer portends an epic adventure.

After delighting the spectators with Chicken Run in 2000 on the big screen (alongside Peter Lord), Nick Park decided to bring another of his creations, Wallace and Gromit, to the big screen with the feature film Wallace and Gromit: The Mystery of the Were-Rabbit. Co-directed by Steve Box, the film was another thunderous tour de force and the public was not mistaken. With 192.6 million dollars collected at the worldwide box office (for only 30 million budget), it became the second biggest success in stop-motion (behind Chicken Run).

Since 2010, the modeling clay duo has disappeared from the screens but fortunately, like the chickens of Chicken Run revenues on Netflix at the end of 2023 in Chicken Run : La Menace NuggetsWallace and Gromit will finally make a comeback. It won’t be in the cinema since it’s on the red N platform, but it will be in a film called Wallace and Gromit: The Palm of Vengeance. And the first trailer has been revealed to celebrate.

A comeback

It’s a new unmissable adventure where the danger seems higher than ever that awaits the tandem. Indeed, Feathers McGraw, the demonic penguin and sworn enemy of Wallace and Gromit, is back and intends to take revenge on Wallace by taking possession of one of his creations: the Norbot or more precisely an intelligent gnome. Objective ? Make him an evil being at the origin of a wave of crimes. Wallace thus finds himself accused of his crimes and Gromit will do everything to try to prove his innocence.

Looking at these first images, Nick Park and his co-director Merlin Crossingham seem to have concocted a fine police thriller in the form of a game of death with the apotheosis: the final boss, the tireless Feathers McGraw ( aka “the best boss in the world”). The trailer is heavy, notably with this boat which skids on a bridge while Gromit clings to it as best he can. Everything seems designed to raise the stakes as high as possible, even if the duo should maintain a certain lightness.

The Norbot, an evil being thirsty for blood

After all, in addition to Nick Park directing and writing the screenplay, the film was co-written by Mark Burton, who had already co-written Wallace and Gromit: The Mystery of the Were-Rabbit and made Shaun the Sheep-The Movie. For dubbing, we find Ben Whitehead who lends his voice to Wallace, which he had already done for Wallace & Gromit: Jubilee Bunt-a-thon.

Peter Kay will reprise the role of Mackintosh, nineteen years after playing him in The Mystery of the Were-Rabbit. Distributed by the BBC in the United Kingdom, Wallace and Gromit: The Palm of Vengeance will see an international release on Netflix on January 3, 2025. We should have first impressions quickly since the film will have the right to a world premiere on October 27 during the AFI Fest.
