Mikaël Micheau-Vernez publishes a new book in the name of his father Robert

The years pass and Mikaël Micheau-Vernez’s faith in his dad Robert, who died in 1989, does not weaken. This is how he dedicated a fifth book to the artist and his paintings, which he delivered to Groix Éditions, with the theme and title “Les Marines”. The pen of honorary chief curator of heritage Jean-Marc Michaud sheds light on the subject, as does the preface by Michel Philippe, marine specialist who describes “a master with an original palette and outlook, on the sea of ports and boats”.

Regarding this new publication, the young octogenarian keeps the verb provided about a father better known for his creations for the earthenware factories. “He is also a painter, a powerful colorist, of great discretion. I went to show around fifteen paintings, in 1977, at the gallery owner Armand Drouant, in . He was asked to do three new exhibitions and my father replied: “Thank you, I still have a lot of work.” We just had a little argument on the stairs. I don’t hold it against him, I still talk about him today. »

“A third of all his works”

Mikaël Micheau-Vernez continues to highlight it with new extracts from his rich collection. These seascapes catch the eye to better touch the heart: oils on canvas, but also decorative panels, drawings, illustrations or posters. “Since 2004, I have been publishing to promote his works. “Les Marines” is printed in a thousand copies. The theme was obvious: it is a third of all of his works. Concerning the “Venice” chapter, it was me who took him there: he didn’t have a driving license. He had a look like no other, it’s original. »

To preserve his paintings, the artist’s son has just completed a course on the conservation of paintings in Pont-Scorff (56). “I took a lot of notes,” he smiles.

“Highlight the abstract, while keeping the subject”

But it’s not just books. Mikaël Micheau-Vernez also gives conferences: the next one takes place on Thursday October 17, at 2:30 p.m., at the Théâtre de l’arche, in Tréguier (22), with anecdotes. “When I was little, he would say to me ‘oh, look how beautiful it is’. I pulled his pants down and asked him what to look at. He marveled at many things that we don’t see. » The artist did not lose sight of his rich colors. “If one color extinguished another, he had to rework it to highlight the abstract, while keeping the subject. » All in harmony.

And the Caudanais takes his pilgrim’s staff for exhibitions. The next one is scheduled from October 19 to January 18, at the Ursulines chapel, in Lannion. Before finding a place dedicated to all of his work? “It’s complicated… I’m on to something in Morbihan! » Mikaël Micheau-Vernez has eyes that sparkle, as when he evokes the works of his father Robert, in this fifth opus distributed by the Coop Breizh network.
