Competition: DS Talents consolidates its commitment to

With the 3rd edition of DS Talents, DS Automobiles continues to position art at the heart of its initiatives, thus contributing to the development of the Kingdom’s new generation of artists.

The DS Art Talents competition revealed the winners of its third edition during a ceremony organized a few days ago at the DS Gallery. It celebrated talent and originality in three major disciplines: painting, photography and, for the first time this year, design.

A demanding jury
The jury was made up of art professionals. Mous Lamrabat, Belgian-Moroccan photographer whose portrait work references pop culture and fashion, also featuring subjects dressed in a mix of Western and traditional clothing, set in naturalistic Moroccan settings and landscapes.

The painter Ghizlan El Mezouari El Glaoui is particularly recognized for her portraits of women, notably Berbers, geishas and Hollywood icons, as well as for her representations of fauna and flora, especially palm trees, which have cultural significance deep for her. Moroccan designer Younes Duret masters the aspects of design in its entirety (product, graphics, interior architecture, etc.) and the industrial constraints linked to mass production. Myriem Himmich is a photographer.

His portraits, known for capturing emotions and beauty, earned him international recognition, notably during Fashion Week. Co-founder of Myluxurylife, Khadija Dinia is an explorer of beauty in all its forms. With a sharp pen and a curious eye, she redefines luxury by freeing it from its clichés to reveal its essence: time, well-being, authenticity…

An inspiring podium
Dozens of candidates outdid themselves by creating works around this year’s theme “Art & Nature”. The Photography Prize went to Houda Rahmani. This multidisciplinary artist, originally from Tangier, is an artistic director, graphic designer, independent director and photographer. A graduate of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan, she obtained a doctorate in Arts and Cinematographic Studies at Abdelmalek Essaadi University.

Younes Saden was awarded the Painting Prize. He chose to capture the attitudes, expressions and moods of the faces he encountered. The Design Prize was awarded to Ahmed Maagouz. For its part, the Public Prize, awarded by a vote via social networks, went to Issam Chorrib, thus marking additional recognition for this promising 23-year-old photographer, originally from Casablanca. Since 2018, his work has been exhibited at the International Center of Photography in New York, at Alserkal Avenue in Dubai, as well as at the National Museum of Photography.

Finally, the deliberations gave rise to an additional surprise: given the exceptional level of this year’s candidates, the jury decided to award a special mention to the artist Hiba Tazzit, in the painting category. It will exceptionally benefit from an exhibition at the Myriem Himmich Gallery, in 2025. All the winners of this edition received a prize of 20,000 DH each and will benefit from an exclusive exhibition of their works at the DS Gallery. In addition, DS Automobiles is committed to supporting the winners with a personalized mentoring program and a communications plan intended to promote their work throughout 2025.

A fence in light
The third edition of DS Art Talents ended with the opening of the exhibition “Shadow of Self or Silent Revelation”, organized in collaboration with Art First Galerie. This display highlights the works of Rida Tabit, El Hadi Fekrouni, and Chama Bekri, winners of the second edition of the competition. Rida Tabit, through her indirect self-portraits, explores solitude and introspective quest, using water and the ocean as metaphors for states of mind.

His work, evoking the photographs of Raymond Depardon, invites us to silent introspection. Chama Bekri, for her part, questions the relationship between the body and social isolation. His characters hide, turn, or curl up, expressing discomfort in the face of singularity. His art opens a reflection on beauty and isolation through light and shadow.

Rida Tabit and El Hadi Fekrouni, participated in an artist residency at the Maison de l’Art Contemporain (MAC) Assilah Briech, directed by Ahlam Lemseffer, renowned Moroccan artist. This residency allowed the two winners to deepen their work around light, the central theme of this edition. Ahlam Lemseffer, sponsor of the competition, passed on her expertise and techniques on light to the artists, supporting them in the development of their own artistic reflection.
