Kandy Park wins the 2024 Bayonnet Prize in Auteuil

Almost impeccable since its beginnings, Kandy Parkafter a victorious return to hurdles, added yet another small stick to his record (the eighth of his career, but the sixth over hurdles in eight attempts in the discipline, editor’s note) by courageously winning, in steeplechase this time. Although committing a few small mistakes during the course, notably at the brook, in an event hosted by Good Boythe representative of the Papot family knew how to finish very well to win under the saddle of Johnny Charron. “He’s a little horse but he has a big heart, comments Daniela Mele. He always gives everything he has once on the track. He made a few blunders, but this is only his second steeplechase run, we must not forget that. He’s a great horse, who surprises us every time. I don’t know what’s next for him yet. I tell myself that we must let him come, because he is an AQPS. I really want to respect him because he gives it back to us every time. We will check with his owners, but I don’t want to be too greedy with him this season.” Winner of his group III, in hurdles in the spring, the son of Waldpark in any case seems to have a bright future on the Auteuil steeple.

After leading, Good Boy was far away, only being dominated on the flat, even if he also sometimes gave scares to his supporters. “He runs very well, comments Geoffrey Ré. I shouldn’t have gone ahead. It was only his second steeplechase course and he was discovering this 4,400 meter course, so what he is doing is still very good. We will have to reckon with him during the next meetings. He jumped the big open-ditch, proof of his ability, but he surprised me a little. At the start of the straight, I told myself that it would take a crack to come and beat us… and Kandy Park came.”
