Celine Dion would have sang playback for the Olympics

On July 26, 2024, for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, Céline Dion, absent from the stage for several years for health reasons, made a remarkable return with her performance on the Eiffel Tower performing “The Anthem to love”. This cover by Edith Piaf, now available for streaming, was one of the highlights of the evening.

Very quickly, however, doubts began to arise, with some wondering if Celine Dion was really singing live. These suspicions grew when “Libération” affirmed, in an investigation published this Thursday, that the performance was “100% playback”. Sound engineers confided that it was impossible to have such a pure sound live, with such a perfect voice, the performance having according to them been pre-recorded and retouched – “The gestures, the levels, the accuracy, the compression … What I hear and what I see: it’s playback.”

Faced with these accusations, the organizers did not want to return to the subject. At the end of July, Victor Le Masne, the musical director of the event, however assured that Céline Dion had wanted to “really sing”, while, as BMFTV reminds us, Lady Gaga or Aya Nakamura had pre-recorded their performances for s avoid possible technical problems.

A silence that only fuels the rumors, Celine Dion suffering from a rare neurological disorder, stiff person syndrome. The mystery remains. For many fans, the memory of this moment should nevertheless remain intact.
