Fashion: Fendi separates from its artistic director Kim Jones

The Italian house Fendi announced on Friday the departure of its artistic director Kim Jones, who arrived four years ago, without specifying who will succeed him.

“Kim Jones and Fendi jointly announce today that Kim Jones is leaving his role as artistic director of the House’s women’s and couture collections,” the Roman house, owned by French luxury giant LVMH, said in a press release.

Kim Jones, however, retains his position within Dior Homme, also owned by LVMH. The 51-year-old English designer succeeded the legendary Karl Lagerfeld in September 2020.

“Kim Jones has contributed significantly to the creative heritage of the brand, harmoniously integrating his modern and intercultural aesthetic into the history of the House,” salutes Fendi, emphasizing that “throughout these four years of collaboration, the Kim Jones’ work has been guided only by passion and creativity.

“Kim Jones is a highly talented designer who has brought his unique and multicultural vision to Fendi over the past four years. I would like to thank him for his contribution and look forward to seeing his creativity continue to flourish. express at Dior Men”, reacted for his part the CEO of LVMH, Bernard Arnault, quoted in the press release.

Kim Jones presented her latest collection in September at Milan Fashion Week for spring-summer 2025 women’s fashion, as Fendi celebrates its centenary next year.

The departure of Kim Jones marks the umpteenth twist in the game of musical chairs shaking the fashion sector, which is facing a slowdown after years of double-digit growth.

This situation pushes the houses to restructure (a change of direction which led to the first strike at Gucci in November 2023), to reorganize their teams (hence a movement of musical chairs from the CEOs and artistic directors of the big houses), and to diversify their activities (particularly in luxury hotels).
