In Michel Blanc’s apartment, in the Marais: The actor born to be an “architect”, a well-known friend tells us more about his interior

Michel Blanc died on October 4, at the age of 72. There has been much speculation recently regarding the circumstances of his death. And we cannot possibly know more about this. So, let’s stay focused on paying tribute to him, who left his mark on French cinema, notably with the Splendid troupe, and through his character in Les Bronzés, namely Jean-Claude Dusse.

Here, focus on his apartment, located in the historic Marais district of , near rue de Turenne, where brasseries and cafés teem. One of his favorite places was the restaurant My Burgundylocated on Place des Vosges, where he often came to relax. “He came almost every evening for an aperitif, often alone.”, remembers Marie-Thérèse Cougoureux, the manager of the establishment, for The Parisian. He also spent a lot of time at home, as explained by Jean-Paul Rouve in the show C l’Hebdo on 5: “His obsession was also the works. There was always noise in his house.” Some even go so far as to say that “Michel was born to be an architect”, as stated by our colleagues at‘AD Magazine.

Michel Blanc lived with Gérard Jugnot, far from Paris

Michel Blanc was therefore as much a perfectionist when it came to renovating his house as when playing his roles in the cinema. Note that he did not live alone, since he had shared the life of the Senegalese stylist Ramatoulaye Diop for around fifteen years.

He also lived under the same roof as Gérard Jugnot, at the start of their respective careers. In Brussels, when they were both young touring actors, they shared a small apartment above the café-theatre where they performed. They will have had some great times there, but also some tough days. And they probably had no idea, at that point in their lives, that they were going to become essential figures in the audiovisual landscape. Tomorrow his funeral will take place, the Saint-Eustache church, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris.
