Robbie Fatt wins the Best Short Film award at the Melbourne Indian Film Festival.

Australian director and Seventh-day Adventist Robbie Fatt has received a prestigious honor at the Melbourne Indie Film Festival. His short film, The Vegemite Sandwichwas crowned best short film in the competition. Inspired by a true story, the film offers a light-hearted story with a profound message. Fatt said he was surprised and honored by this award, especially considering the scale of the festival. This victory also allowed him to meet filmmakers he admires.

A rich and promising cinematic journey.

The Vegemite Sandwich follows Fatt’s first feature film, Everything I Ama Christian film. The director explained that he wanted to explore a different genre with this comedy, after more intense work on the dramatic level. Filming, spread over nine months, presented challenges linked to the presence of five child actors with varied experiences. This experience nevertheless forged strong bonds between the team and the families of the young actors.

Passionate about cinema since his school years, Fatt pursued studies in this field. He has directed more than ten short films, one feature film and more than 40 documentaries, notably in collaboration with Gary Kent. Two of his films have been selected for the International Christian Film Festival, the largest Christian film festival in the world. Fatt sees these accomplishments as the beginnings of a promising career.

Cinema: a powerful art at the service of the spiritual message.

For Robbie Fatt, cinema represents the ultimate form of artistic expression, a universal language born from the combination of storytelling, photography, acting and music. He sees cinema as a powerful means of arousing emotions, promoting reflection and spreading a spiritual message. As a Christian artist, he wishes to put his skills at the service of faith.

Future projects and ambitions.

Currently in Europe for a master’s degree in directing, Fatt plans to continue his career with projects in line with the challenges of the 21st century. He is working on several screenplays and has the dream of adapting the biblical book of Daniel for the cinema. His long-term goal is to create his own production company and make original films that are different from mainstream productions.
