Halle Berry, 58, was participating in the “Armchair Expert” podcast when she returned to the justifications given to her by her former husband Eric Benet. “I had a husband who said he was a sex addict. But I don’t believe this bullshit,” she said.
Although the Catwoman star didn’t specifically name Eric Benet, it’s common knowledge that Benet went to rehab in 2002 for sex addiction. The couple began dating in 1999 and married in 2001. They separated in 2003 following rumors that Eric Benet cheated on Halle Berry several times during their marriage.
At the time, the actress released a statement saying, “Eric and I have been having marital problems for some time and we have tried to work things out together. However, at this point, I think we need to separate to re-evaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we navigate this emotional time.”
In 2004, a year after their separation, Eric Benet reacted to this information. “I’m not a sex addict,” he said. I am a person who, through a series of emotional events, problems, challenges, has made some really, really stupid and painful mistakes.”
Eric Benet, 57, married Manuela Testolini in 2011, with whom he has two daughters, Lucia Bella, 12, and Amoura Luna, 10. Halle Berry dated Gabriel Aubry from 2005 to 2010, with whom she has a daughter, Nahla, 16. After their separation, the actress dated Olivier Martinez. They married in 2013, welcoming a son, Maceo, later that year. They divorced in 2016.
Since 2020, Halle Berry has lived with musician Van Hunt. She explained earlier this week that she felt like she had finally found the right person.
“We celebrated our four years of marriage as if we had been married for twenty years, which shows how important it was to me personally. He had long-term relationships, I didn’t… We were both scared. (…) Because I can’t get past this. It’s such a relief. I was like, “OK, yes, I can have a relationship.” And he’s the one, and I know it. He’s calm and he’s what I dreamed of, what I was looking for, what I needed,” Halle Berry said.
