A major figure in contemporary jazz for around thirty years, combining an almost experimental vision of music in the broad sense with a permanent commitment, Erik Truffaz has always demonstrated a ferocious appetite for openness and discovery, in true Jazz iconoclast. An extremely prolific artist (around twenty albums), he has never stopped renewing himself, confronting very varied aesthetics: drum & bass, for “Bending New Corners”, dub for “Face à Face”, rock for “The Walk of Giant Turtle” or MDM for “Mantis”. Erik Truffaz has been supported throughout his career by the Jazz sur son 31 festival. He has been programmed there five times, from 1998 to 2023. This jazz lesson will attempt to highlight the different aesthetics of his repertoire but also to break through the codes of his playing and his writing.
David Haudrechy is a saxophonist, composer and producer, and has led the Initiative H group since 2012. He coordinates the contemporary music department at Isdat (Higher Institute of Arts and Design of Toulouse).
