Television host Daniel Pinard has died

The popular host, columnist and culinary writer Daniel Pinard died Wednesday at the age of 82.

This was confirmed by the Goodwin agency on its Instagram account on Wednesday evening.

Daniel Pinard had been at the helm of the broadcasts Sky! My Pinard et Feet in the flatbroadcast on Télé-Québec and having revolutionized the culinary world in the province. He then shared the screen with Josée di Stasio, whose career he propelled.

In order to transmit his passion for gastronomy, he wrote two cookbooks: Pinardises: recipes and culinary advice (1994) et More Pinardises (2000).

“You have been one of my greatest sources of inspiration,” Ricardo said on his Facebook page.

After doctoral studies in sociology, Daniel Pinard made his debut in journalism at the magazine Maclean’sthe ancestor of Newsand at Duty. He then piloted several news programs, including The 60 or even Télémag, at Radio-Canada in the 1970s.

He had also written columns on the radio on the shows Hello Montrealto CKAC, then to Since you have to get up, at 98.5 FM.

“In journalism as in cooking, I wanted to free people from fear. Let them stop obeying. For me, following a recipe is the height of servility,” he said in an interview with The Press in 2022.

Daniel Pinard, who declared during the broadcast The Francs Tireurs in 2000 that he was homosexual, had participated in several projects in favor of LGBTQ+ rights in Quebec.

Having disappeared from the screens for several years, this great communicator was still the subject of a documentary directed by Francis Legault, I salute you Pinardin 2015.

“Quebec loses a pioneer of Quebec cuisine and television. A colorful, fun and humorous man who my generation will remember for a long time,” responded Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante.

Solidarity MP Vincent Marissal, who has already worked with him on television sets, also expressed his sadness on X, calling the host one of “the most brilliant communicators of his generation”.

“Daniel Pinard will have given millions of Quebecers the taste for eating well. He was also a man of great culture, a humanist generous with his time and his knowledge, an exceptional communicator,” indicated the co-spokesperson for Québec solidaire, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.

He was described as a “great communicator, host, columnist, author and cook” by the federal Minister of Canadian Heritage, Pascale St-Onge.

“He left his mark on Quebec television for decades with his shows, notably on Radio-Canada and Télé-Québec,” she recalled on X.
