Spotlight on Jordan

The film industry in Jordan has really grown over the past twenty years. Several world-renowned directors have adopted this country to set up their cameras during emblematic shoots, such as Ridley Scott (for Alone on Mars) or Denis Villeneuve (for the Dune saga), to name a few.

During its previous editions, the Arab Film Festival welcomed several Jordanian creations symbolizing the cinematographic dynamic that the country has today and the perspectives it opens up: Captain Abu Raed (2007) directed by Amin Matalqa – considered the first Jordanian feature film produced for decades -, 3000 Nights (2015) directed by Mai Masri, or Inshallah a son (2024) directed by Amjad Al Rasheed. Through these works, certainly still few in number but qualitative, Jordan shows its support for filmmakers exploiting the cultural and social diversity of their countries; an association between tradition and modernity where the feminine condition constitutes one of the central subjects.

More broadly, as part of its official selection comprising around forty films of all genres and formats (feature films, short films, documentaries, animated films), the 2024 festival will offer a number of productions from all origins reflecting plurality and current proliferation of Arab cinemas (to which will be added heritage films), focusing on those with the most promise and daring. Screenings coupled with the arrival of several teams and guests, but also the holding of different competitive sections whose juries are made up of personalities from the world of culture. A filmic journey in the colors of the world, rich in emotions, in poetry but often also of a rarely equaled social significance.
