(Madrid) The San Sebastian festival that begins Friday in Spain will open with the highly anticipated screening of the new, feminist version of the classic of erotic cinema Emmanuelleproduced by Frenchwoman Audrey Diwan.

Actress Noémie Merlant stars in this reinterpretation of the 1974 French classic directed by Just Jaeckin, which caused a worldwide sensation at the time. 15 other films are in competition for the Golden Shell, including the latest works by Frenchman François Ozon (When autumn comes), the Franco-Greek Costa-Gavras (The last breath), by the American Gia Coppola, granddaughter of Francis Ford Coppola (The Last Showgirl), or even the Chilean director Maite Alberdi (The other place), by the Argentinian Diego Lerman (The man who loved the flying platters), or the Spanish Icíar Bollaín (I am Nevenka).
In the official selection, but out of competition, the American actor Johnny Depp will present his second feature film: Modiabout the vicissitudes of the Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani in a Paris shaken by war in 1916.
The 72e The festival, which runs from Friday 20 to Saturday 28 September, will this year welcome stars such as Cate Blanchett, Johnny Depp, Pamela Anderson, Isabelle Huppert, Tilda Swinton and Monica Bellucci. Javier Bardem will receive his Honorary Award, which he was unable to receive last year due to the Hollywood actors’ strike.
The jury is chaired by Spanish director Jaione Camborda, who won the Golden Shell last year for her film O Corno, a story of women.
Pedro Almodóvar will receive the Donostia Honorary Award on Thursday 26th for his prolific career, after having received the Golden Lion in Venice at the beginning of the month for his first film in English, The Room Next Door.
