To commemorate the second anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, 2022, Charles III was in Scotland, a region dear to the sovereign.

It was in the church of Crathie Kirk, near Balmoral in Scotland, that King Charles paid his respects on Sunday, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. A place dear to the sovereign, who also passed away on September 8, 2022 in her Scottish castle.

Charles and Camilla attended a mass on Sunday at the small granite church of Crathie Kirk, where a private mass for members of the royal family was held on September 10, 2022.

Queen Elizabeth, who was very religious, had donated to this small church where she frequently went a Bible decorated with the royal coat of arms.

King Charles opened this summer to the public, for the very first time, Balmoral Castlea holiday resort for the royal family since the reign of Victoria. Tickets for tours sold out in 24 hours, as the place arouses public curiosity.

Elizabeth II had received at Balmoral, where she was resting, the brand new and very short-lived Prime Minister Liz Truss, on September 6, 2022. It was the last public appearance of the 96-year-old sovereign, who died two days later. However, she feared dying at Balmoral, as her daughter, Princess Anne, confided in a documentary, apprehensive about the complications that this implied for her funeral.

After being placed in public view at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, the Queen’s coffin was flown to London by military aircraft. The coffin then lay in public view in Westminster Hall, the oldest chamber in the British Parliament, until the funeral on September 19.
