Wolves in solidarity

They made a festival. Guests of the 81^e edition of the Mostra, Brad Pitt and George Clooney chained together, at the end of last week, photo-calls, ceremonies, social events, red carpets, press conferences and other pinch-butts, lighting up Venice with their charm, humor and complicity. To the point of making us forget that they were first there to present the film Wolf, directed by Jon Watts and available September 27 on Apple TV? Yes, but given the script of this buddy movie (old school buddy movie), is it really a drama?

Brave Pitt

The two friends’ tap dancing routine is perfectly rehearsed, and each plays a specific role in terms of clothing that allows them to avoid too much direct competition. Brad Pitt is here the modern, fashionable hunk, in search of deconstruction and capable, with a little tan, blond highlights or bulging muscles, of smoothly making a creative suit cut or an unexpected colour pass. Let’s say it, it’s rather well done, even if those big sneakers could seriously give rise to criticism…

The shoe pinches

George Clooney embodies a different model of masculinity, more discreet, less spectacular, more classic, less fashionable, more ideal son-in-law, less Californian surfer, more conservative, less deconstructed, more slender, less muscular, more pearl gray, less sea green, more graying, less streaked. Here too, it’s rather well done. Even if, once again, the conclusion is missed: what an idea to finish this outfit with a thick pair of boots when loafers were required.

Needle talent

Dressed in a noticeably different way, George Clooney and Brad Pitt nevertheless have one thing in common in this photo. Both seem to care greatly about their watch and its visibility, one taking care to put it back at arm’s length, the other adopting the traditional pose of watch enthusiasts delighted with their new purchase. In this case, George Clooney, Omega ambassador, conscientiously does the job, while Brad Pitt, equipped with a yellow gold Patek Philippe Calatrava, fully lives his passion for watches.

Holy drawing

How can we not mention, finally, this herd of winged lions adorning the blue wall behind the stars? Equivalent to the Cannes Palme, this lion is obviously the symbol of the festival and, more generally, of the city of Venice. Concretely, it is the lion of Saint Mark, representation of the evangelist Mark, whose remains rest in the Venetian basilica of the same name. Note however that, if the lion is here represented in a minimalist way, devoid of the slightest accessory, it is traditionally equipped with a sword and a book, the first symbolizing war, the second peace.
