The American singer, a supporter of Kamala Harris, released the song on August 30, Can we fix our nation’s broken hearthis first new title in 4 years.

“Can we mend the broken heart of our nation? Are we brave enough to try?” wonders Stevie Wonder, in a new song, released on August 30, 2024 and entitled Can we fix our nation’s broken heart.

A song that, without being overtly political, comes out at an opportune time, as Kamala Harris’ campaign, after Joe Biden’s defection, is in full swing. The singer thus took to the stage of the Democratic convention on August 22, where he performed the song Higher Ground and urges the crowd to choose “courage over complacency.”

“Every song I’ve ever sung, every song I’ve ever written, it’s because of the love I have for you here. But this year, I’ve prayed very hard for peace to come to the nations of the world, but also to each of our hearts, even though our hearts have been beaten and broken beyond prayer. And now is the time to understand where we are and what it’s going to take to win,” he said, adding:

“We must continue to move forward, until we are truly a united people in the United States.”

Committed against injustice

His last two songs, released in 2020, Where Is Our Love Song? et Can’t Put It in the Hands of Fatealso demonstrate his commitment against injustices and for a “better world” in the context of the pandemic and Black Lives Matter.

The 74-year-old singer hasn’t released an album in nearly 20 years. His latest album, A time to lovedates back to 2005. Stevie Wonder is the author of countless hits, from Isn’t she lovely in 1976 to Part time lover in 1985, passing through I just call to say I love you or Superstition.
