For 5 years, The Ly Do has been painting canvases in the colors of New Caledonian biodiversity. The artist is inspired by the most sublime aerial panoramas of the country.
Sitting on the floor of her studio, The Ly Do refines her latest canvas wearing gloves and a paintbrush. The artist is inspired by an aerial landscape of the Caledonian lagoon. The work offers a spectacle between shades of azure blue, turquoise and emerald green. These colors intertwine in a hypnotic dance. “Generally, I look at a lot of photos from the sky. It’s also my friends who send me photos when they go out on a boat trip.“, précise The Ly Do.
The artist has flourished for five years in Nouméa. She settled on the Caillou in 2020, after falling in love during a tourist trip. The Nouméenne succeeds in combining her job as an English teacher and her passion. Pouring, a technique consisting of superimposing layers of paint, is his trademark. “I create the texture, the 3D relief effect, with sand from Caledonia. When my friends go for a walk, they bring me some from the islands or islets near Nouméa“, smiles the painter.
His latest work required three weeks of work, between the first coat and the application of the varnish. In the coming days, this lagoon setting will beautify the offices of a company in Caillou.
