New classic in sight. In a press conference held this Tuesday, January 21 to mark its three years of operation in France, the Italian railway company Trenitalia revealed its plans for the coming year. In addition to the relaunch of its Paris-Milan offer and the maintenance of its Paris-Lyon connection, the firm announced the opening of a new line between the cities of Paris and Marseille.
From June 15, 2025, users will therefore have the possibility, in addition to the Ouigo and SNCF trains, to take four daily Frecciarossa round-trip connections between the two cities. With a (classic) duration of 3 hours 20 minutes, the journeys will be made on trains adaptable according to the attendance ranging from 5 to 9 wagons, and will pass through the cities of Lyon, Avignon and Aix-en-Provence. Three classes (Standard, Business, Executive) will be offered to users and the catering offer will have an Italian accent with, for Executive class, dishes designed by star chef Carlo Cracco, the Italian answer to Thierry Marx.
What about prices?
And how much will it cost to board one of the “Red Arrows” to reach Marseille? For the moment, the Italians are being secretive and prefer to keep the secret until ticket sales open next March. We just know that the “price range will be based on train occupancy rate », with first tickets “at very affordable prices”.
-France Bleu reminds that on the Paris-Lyon route, Trenitalia prices are up to 40% lower than those of SNCF. Final details: free admission will apply for children under 4 years old, a 50% reduction for children under 14 years old (that's up to 12 years old) and we are promised a fairly flexible exchange policy.
