The Scrabble Club Gaillac (SCG) is organizing – in partnership with the regional committee – the regional youth championship on Wednesday February 5 from 2 p.m., at the Gaillac performance hall.

This event will take place at the same time as the traditional regional final of the school competition. “We are expecting nearly 90 participants in total, 80 schoolchildren and around ten young people” explains Florian Jourdain who runs the SCG and has been spreading the good word for several years in the city’s schools.

The local club is accustomed to organizing regional events. This time, there are 80 students ranging from CE2 to 6th grade, from the entire Midi-Pyrénées region, who will try to qualify for the final of the school competition which will be held in on March 29, while around ten young people will vie for the title of regional champion.

Everyone will play the same games, two in total. 26 Gaillac residents will be concerned: 20 schoolchildren and 6 young people. Furthermore, three players from Scrabble Club Gaillac have qualified for the final of the French Championship of series 5-6-7 which will take place on May 24 and 25 in .

They are Claude Lefebvre, Sophia Gaglione (Cadette) and Emilien Le Guilly Jourdain (Poussin). And one player qualified for the final of the French Youth Championship which will take place in from April 25 to 28: Pauline Lacroix (Benjamine).

Since Florian Jourdain, commissioned by the SCG, led this action in schools and presented this intellectual sport to students and teachers, scrabble has gained followers. Last year, three of them qualified for the national finals in Paris: Laïna Ali, Gaspard Cals and Sixtine De Bure, taking three of the five qualifying places. At the French “youth” championships in , Pauline Lacroix finished 46th overall.

At the semi-rapid world simultaneous, where 27 players were present, Florian Jourdain took second place. For all those who are interested in discovering Scrabble, the club is open Monday and Wednesday (2 p.m. – 4 p.m.) for everyone, Thursday (7:15 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.) for beginners and Saturday (11 a.m. – 12 p.m.) only for young people.
