15 days of popular theater in Caen, with six plays by Molière and Balzac, and two complete works!

From January 22 to February 1, 2025, the Théâtre de Caen (Calvados) welcomes the New Popular Theater“a troupe which brings together actors within a collective based in Fontaine-Guérin, in the depths of the Angevin countryside”, describes Patrick Foll, the director of the municipal theater. This company will offer not one, but six shows!

This will be a theater festival for 15 days.

The theme of faith as a common thread

She will start with her “Moliere Feast”with The Tartuffe Wednesday January 22, Dom Juan on Thursday January 23 and Psyche on Friday January 24.

And on Saturday January 25, from 3:30 p.m., they will offer these three plays in a row, until 10:30 p.m., to spend the whole day at the theater. It’s jubilant!

A common thread legitimizes this choice: the theme of faith. Religious fundamentalism in The Tartuffeblasphemy and darkness in Dom Juanlove saving humans in Psyche : the relationship with religion takes on different faces here to better express a disrupted century. Molière’s like ours.

After Molière, it’s time for Balzac!

If each play has its director, its costumes, all three are performed by the same troupe “with contagious energy and astonishing endurance”.

And the following week, again, with the complete The Human Comedy by Balzac! On the program:

The Beautiful Illusions of Youth on January 29, Lost Illusions on January 30, and Splendors and Miseries on January 31.

And do it again on Saturday, February 1, with three shows in a row.

January 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31, 2025, at 8 p.m., and January 25 and February 1, at 3:30 p.m., at the Théâtre de Caen, 135 boulevard Leclerc, in Caen (Calvados). Prices: 8 to 27 euros per piece, 10 to 47 euros per piece.
